Lesson Plan: Black Friday


Target Level: A1 CEFR

Duration: 60 minutes


Objectives & Outcomes:


Students will be able to understand the meaning and significance of Black Friday.

Students will be able to use vocabulary related to Black Friday in context.

Materials:


Whiteboard and markers

Pictures of Black Friday sales and advertisements

Vocabulary handout


Presentation:


Begin the lesson by asking students if they have heard of Black Friday.

Show pictures of Black Friday sales and advertisements and ask students to make guesses about what the day is about.

Explain that Black Friday is a day of big sales and discounts, usually the day after Thanksgiving in the United States.

Introduce the vocabulary related to Black Friday, including words such as discount, sale, purchase, bargain, deal, and crowd.

Write the vocabulary words on the board and go over their meanings.


Practice:


Divide the students into pairs and give each pair a vocabulary handout.

Have the students work together to match the vocabulary words with the definitions.

Once they have completed the matching activity, have them go over the words together to make sure they understand their meanings.

Next, have students take turns asking each other questions using the vocabulary words, for example, "What did you buy during the Black Friday sale?"

Walk around the room and provide support and correction as needed.


Production:


Have the students work in small groups to create a role play about a Black Friday shopping trip.

Encourage them to use the vocabulary words from the presentation and practice activities.

Once the groups have prepared their role plays, have them perform for the class.

After each performance, ask the class to provide feedback on their use of the vocabulary words.


Closure:


Review the vocabulary words by having students say them aloud.

Ask students to share what they learned about Black Friday and how they could use the vocabulary words in a real-life context.

Assess students' understanding of the vocabulary by having them complete a written assessment or quiz.


Assessment:


Observe students during the practice and production activities to assess their understanding of the vocabulary words.

Administer a written assessment or quiz to check their understanding of the terms.
